Elster AMCO Water applies non-contact InVISION technology to its absolute encoder - utilizing Optical Character Recognition (OCR).  This technology proven for high accuracy in banking and commerce, now offers virtually 100% six digit reading accuracy, and with no wear.

The Elster AMCO absolute encoder interfaces to electronic and Automatic Meter Reading systems to reduce meter reading and customer service costs.  Encoder reading increases efficiency by reducing reading time and eliminating human error.  Encoder reading significantly improves meter reader safety by eliminating the need to enter residences or hazardous confined spaces to take readings.

The encoder reading is obtained directly from the position of the register’s odometer wheel, and not accumulated from pulses or switch closures.  No batteries are required.  The encoder communicates over a 2-wire configuration (non-polarized) to a Remote Meter Reading (RMR) display for electronic meter reading, or over a 3-wire configuration to the evoRTM Endpoint for mobile AMR and fixed-network AMI systems.

The Elster AMCO encoder exceeds the requirements of AWWA Standard C707.
