evolution Fixed Network AMI
With the fixed network evolution AMI system, utilities can now offer higher levels of efficiency, conservation and customer service. The system flexibility allows evolution to adapt to any indoor, outdoor, rural or urban scenario, and ensures the on-demand delivery of time-critical data to the utility by integrating cutting-edge functional advancements along with 2-way wireless communications. As the water industry evolves, Elster AMCO Water continues to invest in cutting edge technology, embracing groundbreaking approaches and unsurpassed metering intelligence. Driven by utility demand, Elster AMCO Water offers advanced solutions now and innovation for the future in water metering.
A central component of the Eslter AMCO Water evolution fixed network is the intelligent evoGate™ Central Collector that gathers read data from the evoRTM™ Endpoint radio transceiver modules using the 900 MHz unlicensed Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) band. Going beyond just read capability, some versions of the evoRTM Endpoint can control electronic valves (evoValve™) for remote turn-on and turn-off. Where distance is a concern, evoHop™ Range Extenders are used as automatic data relays between evoRTM Endpoints and the evoGate Central Collector.
The evoGate Central Collector passes data along to the evolution Ground Server and evoNet™ Manager Server using cellular broadband wireless technology or an Ethernet-based Internet connection. Accessed using utility company networked workstations, the evoNet Manager software manages the network, translates data to the utility’s internal data systems and generates a wide range of reports as desired.
The evolution AMI network is designed for accuracy, reliability and long life. World-class meters and registers offer best-in-class accuracy and reliability while the evoRTM Endpoints offer long battery life. Long life is ensured by design with operating rules that create an intelligent network that prevents data overload and overuse of any one evoRTM or evoHop device in the network while maintaining the advantages of a self-healing network. When first installed, the evolution AMI network seeks out the shortest, most efficient data paths and has the flexibility to configure itself into combinations of ‘tree’ and ‘star’ topologies. From then on, if ever a path is broken, the system reestablishes paths without loss of data.
System operators are immediately made aware of any problems with network devices. When this occurs, evoNetWalk™ handheld devices and software are used to troubleshoot and repair endpoints. System management is easy with Elster AMCO Water tools and network devices.
